The Greater Caribbean for Life (GCL) joins the global movement for the abolition of capital punishment on 10th October 2015 to commemorate the 13th World Day against the Death Penalty. This year’s theme is Drug Crimes. The aim is to raise awareness of the need to reduce the use of the death penalty for drug-related offences.

On Monday, 16 March 2015, at 10:15 a.m, the Greater Caribbean for Life (GCL) will address the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) about issues relating to the death penalty in the Greater Caribbean. GCL will address the IACHR during a dedicated thematic hearing, to take place at the Organisation of American States (OAS) headquarters in Washington, D.C., USA. This hearing will be transmitted live.
In New York, on Friday 21st November, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will cast an initial vote, in Committee, on a draft resolution calling for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty.
The Greater Caribbean for Life, an organisation that is working towards the abolition of the death penalty, urges all Caribbean Nations to use this opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to Human Rights and the fundamental Right to Life by supporting this resolution.

Commemoration of the 12th World Day Against the Death Penalty has already started in the Greater Caribbean region as the Greater Caribbean for Life (GCL) hasembarked on a Speaking Tour to raise awareness of the inhumanity of the death penalty. GCL will visit 6 Caribbean countries between 4 – 16 October.
Leela Ramdeen, Chair of The Greater Caribbean For Life (GCL), will commence a Speaking Tour from 3 October – 17 October to commemorate the 12th World Day Against the Death Penalty, which falls on 10 October. This year the theme is:Mental Health – drawing attention to people with mental health problems who are at risk of a death sentence or execution.
