Prayer

Creator of all we thank you for the gift of life.

We pray for a deeper respect and appreciation or life and all that sustains life.

Instill in us a sense of wonder and awe for all creation, especially for human life.

You created us for unity and to live in unity with all of creation.

We ask forgiveness for the times we have selfishly exploited the land and other life forms for our own desires;

for our failure to love our brothers and sisters whom we are called to love – regardless of their ethnic background, social status or religious belief.

We pray that we may be a source of unity and life as we journey through life.

Amen.

Mary, teach us to respect all life

by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ

On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII declared the Assumption of Mary to be a dogma of our faith. He stated in his Apostolic Constitution: Munificentissimus Deus (The Most Bountiful God): “By the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, of the blessed apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own authority, we pronounce, declare, and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.”  Read more »

‘Respect for Life’ Design Logo Competition Winner

Crystal Pedro

Crystal Pedro

Crystal Pedro is the winner of the ‘Respect for Life’ design logo competition. The following is Crystal’s explanation of her winning logo: “The seed denotes the idea of conception. The tree without leaves illustrates old age and natural death. The praying hands represent a sign of respect and protection of life from conception to natural death and a symbol of obedience, submission, sincerity and repentance.
The Christian Cross is a representation of Christianity being the burial, the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven. Both the hand and Cross can also symbolize the Church.  The green colour is the sign of life and growth. Represents Ordinary Time.  The red wording represents the sacrificial blood of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
