Our hope is in the risen Lord

By Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ & Director, CREDI

“Let us not keep our faces bowed to the ground in fear, but raise our eyes to the risen Jesus. His gaze fills us with hope, for it tells us that we are loved unfailingly, and that however much we make a mess of things, his love remains unchanged. This is the one, non-negotiable certitude we have in life: his love does not change.” (Pope Francis).

Yes, my friends, God is love and His love is demonstrated by His Son’s Resurrection. In this time of crisis, let us turn to the risen Lord. He is our hope, our light and our salvation.

Christ’s Resurrection – true hope for the world

The empty tomb
The empty tomb

Christ is risen, Alleluia! The blogger, Phil Newton, wrote: ‘9 ways Christ’s Resurrection gives us hope for today.’ Numbers 5 and 9 read: “The bodily resurrection motivates us to holy living. Fixing our hope on the future in Christ builds a deeper desire for pure, holy lives (1 John 3:1–3; 1 Cor 15:33–34, 58).”

The perfect hope

“Christ has really, truly, and substantially risen, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, from the dead. The whole Christ has risen indeed for the completion of the work of our redemption.” Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Happy Easter! Christ is risen! His death and resurrection opened the door to a new life for us. The crown of thorns was a crown of victory—a triumph over sin and death. Pope Francis has reminded us that “life, which death destroyed on the cross, now reawakens and pulsates anew. The heartbeat of the Risen Lord is granted us as a gift, a present, a new horizon…”

Living as an Easter people

“Let us accept the grace of Christ’s resurrection! Let us be renewed by God’s mercy, let us be loved by Jesus, let us enable the power of His love to transform our lives too; and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all creation and make justice and peace flourish.” – Pope Francis, 2013.

Happy Easter! Christ is risen! The joy of Christ’s victory tells us that love has triumphed and has defeated evil, sin and death. The Scriptures have been fulfilled. God’s love for us is so great that He sent His only Son to die so that we may have eternal life through Him. What a gift!

Down from the cross and into our lives

by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ and Director, CREDI

“Jesus, who was crucified, is risen!…The message which Christians bring to the world is this: Jesus, Love incarnate, died on the cross for our sins, but God the Father raised him and made him the Lord of life and death. In Jesus, love has triumphed over hatred, mercy over sinfulness, goodness over evil, truth over falsehood, life over death.” – Pope Francis, April 20, 2014.

The quotation above is taken from Pope Francis’ Ubi et Orbi Easter Message in 2014, entitled: ‘Come and See’.
Inter alia, he said: “In every human situation, marked by frailty, sin and death, the Good News is no mere matter of words, but a testimony to unconditional and faithful love: it is about leaving ourselves behind and encountering others, being close to those crushed by life’s troubles, sharing with the needy, standing at the side of the sick, elderly and the outcast… ‘Come and see!’… Love is more powerful, love gives life, love makes hope blossom in the wilderness.”
