Discovering God’s call in our lives

By Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ & Director, CREDI

“Every vocation is born of that gaze of love with which the Lord came to meet us…Vocation, more than our own choice, is a response to the Lord’s unmerited call. We will succeed in discovering and embracing our vocation once we open our hearts in gratitude and perceive the passage of God in our lives” (Pope Francis).

Today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, our Church celebrates Good Shepherd Sunday and the 57th World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Let us celebrate fidelity to priestly and religious vocations. We thank God for their ‘Yes’.

St Paul urges us to “live in a manner worthy of your vocation. Bear with one another charitably, in complete selflessness, gentleness and patience. Do all you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that binds you together…” (Ephesians 4: 1-3).
Let us pray for our clergy and religious in particular. We congratulate Bishop Robert Llanos who was recently installed as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of St John’s-Basseterre.

Are we hearing the Shepherd’s voice?

Today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, the Church celebrates ‘Good Shepherd Sunday’ and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations.

Let us pray for the priests in our Archdiocese, who, as Bishop John Sherrington, Diocese of Westminster, says, “are servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God (1 Cor 4:1)…Humble witness and generous service will ensure that the person of the priest shows an authenticity of life to others so that they may believe. We thank God for priests and their priestly ministry.”
CCSJ urges you to support Generation S, our archdiocesan vocations ministry whose aim is “to encourage service to God through religious vocation.”

Vocations, gift of the Love of God

by CCSJ Chair, Leela Ramdeen
by CCSJ Chair, Leela Ramdeen

Today our Church observes the 49th World Day of Prayer for Vocations. On October 18, 2011, in preparation for Vocation Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI meditated on the theme: Vocations, the Gift of the Love of God.

The Holy Father reminds us that “It is in this soil of self-offering and openness to the love of God, and as the fruit of that love, that all vocations are born and grow. By drawing from this wellspring through prayer…it becomes possible to live a life of love for our neighbours, in whom we come to perceive the face of Christ the Lord”.
