As we engage in our pro-life work, let us resolve never to give up in our efforts to reject the culture of death that threatens to overwhelm us.  Be alert! Be vigilant! Anti-life forces are at work constantly trying to impose their agenda on us.

Stand up for Life

The scandal emanating from the undercover videos revealing the sale of body parts of aborted babies by Planned Parenthood (PP) in the US should spur us on to stand up for life. About a dozen videos were recorded by a pro-life non-profit group, the Center for Medical Progress (CMP). They show PP officials talking about the sale of unborn babies’ organs. In one of these a PP executive jokes about pricing aborted baby parts and says: “I want a Lamborghini.”

In a third video released on July 28, a PP employee in the US is seen casually discussing over lunch the sale of the hearts, lungs, livers and muscles of aborted babies. The discussion was with a woman who says she worked in a clinic procuring tissue from aborted foetuses. The PP official said: “I think a per-item thing works a little better, just because we can see how much we can get out of it.”

Defending the right to life

“It is necessary that the whole of society defend the right to life.” Pope Benedict XVI (2011).

Tuesday, January 22, marked the 40th anniversary of Roe vs Wade, the US Supreme Court’s decision which legalised abortion throughout pregnancy in the USA. Priests for Life estimate that in the USA more than 53 million have been legally killed since 1973.

Statistics from the World Health Organisation show that “every year in the world an estimated 40-50 million women decide to have an abortion. This corresponds to approximately 125,000 abortions per day.”

Church teaching on abortion, homosexuality

by CCSJ chair, Leela Ramdeen

God imprinted a moral order in our hearts and it is this order that should influence how we live our lives. In today’s Gospel (John 15:26-27; 16:12-15), Jesus tells His Disciples that “when the Spirit of truth comes” (the Holy Spirit) he will lead them “to the complete truth.” Sadly, in today’s world moral relativism is rampant; people think they can “make up” their own “truth”.
