The Archdiocese of Port of Spain will be represented at a May 16-18 international meeting in Rome to mark the anniversary of a papal encyclical.

May 15 is the 50th anniversary of Pope John XXIII’s encyclical, Mater et Magistra (Mother and Teacher); the encyclical, which deals with Christianity and Social Progress, was promulgated May 15, 1961.

Leela Ramdeen, chair of the Catholic Commission for Social Justice, is currently in London on private business and will make the trip over to the Italian capital on behalf of the Archdiocese. She will likely be the lone Caribbean Catholic Church representative.
