Act within agreed boundaries

by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ and Director, CREDI

Christ is risen! Alleluia! A very happy and joyous Easter to everyone. God of justice and mercy gave us the gift of His Son who died and rose again so that we may live: “Because I live, you live also (John 14:19).” We live, yes, but what are we doing with our lives?

Easter is a time of new beginnings. Let us commit to open our hearts and minds to clean up our ‘act’ – at all levels of society – so that the Lord of life will lead us to heal wounds in our land. God knows that we need healing – including me.

Archbishop Harris’ Gospel Reflection March 30 – Easter Vigil (C)

by Archbishop Joseph Harris
by Archbishop Joseph Harris

Gospel: Lk 24:1-12

At daybreak on the first day of the week the women who had come from Galilee with Jesus took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb; but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them. They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground. They said to them, “Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day.”

Witnesses of the Resurrection

by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ and Director, CREDI
by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ and Director, CREDI

Faith in the resurrection of Jesus says that there is a future for every human being; the cry for unending life, which is a part of the person is indeed answered… God exists: that is the real message of Easter. Anyone who even begins to grasp what this means also knows what it means to be redeemed. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI (2011)

Happy Easter to you and your loved ones! I shall be in London for Easter and, as usual, I shall be able to share the Easter story with my 14 great-nephews and nieces.

Christ is risen and lives among us – what a wonderful gift from God. We can see signs of His Resurrection all around us. If we really know what it means to be redeemed, if we understand the power of the Resurrection, we will be enthusiastic about being witnesses of the Resurrection every moment of every day.

Archbishop Harris’ Gospel Reflection Apr 15 – Second Sunday of Easter (B)

by Archbishop Joseph Harris
by Archbishop Joseph Harris

Gospel Jn 20:19-31

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”

Archbishop Harris’ Gospel Reflection Apr 7 – Easter Vigil (B)

by Archbishop Joseph Harris
by Archbishop Joseph Harris

Gospel Mk 16:1-7

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go and anoint him. Very early when the sun had risen, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb. They were saying to one another, “Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” When they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back; it was very large. On entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe, and they were utterly amazed. He said to them, “Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold the place where they laid him. But go and tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you.'”
