The Catholic Church was among more than two dozen religious groups which recently signed a Declaration of Commitment in support of the HIV/AIDS response in Trinidad and Tobago.  The signing took place on December 10, 2012 and the groups represented were from the Christian, Hindu and Muslim faiths.

“Human Rights, International Law and the Family”

To mark International Human Rights Day, the Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society in association with the Lawyers’ Christian Fellowship hosted a series of events between December 8 and December 10, 2012.
The major event was the International Conference on December 8 at the Jamaica Conference Centre, Kingston. In addition to the Conference there was an event entitled “Celebrating God – the Giver of Rights” which was staged at Emancipation Park on Human Rights Day, Monday, December 10.
CCSJ chair Leela Ramdeen attended both events and submitted a report.

Patroness of the Environment canonized

On Sunday, October 21, Pope Benedict XVI canonized seven new saints at St. Peter’s Square.  The seven new saints are Kateri Tekakwitha and Marianne Cope of the United States, Jacques Berthieu of France, Pedro Calungsod of the Philippines, Anna Schaeffer of Germany, Giovanni Battista Piamarta of Italy and Maria del Carmen of Spain.

St Kateri Tekakwitha has been recognized as the patroness of the environment and ecology, and you can learn much more about her life courtesy of the Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Conservation Center.
