Ascension Sunday (B) – May 17

by Archbishop Joseph Harris
by Archbishop Joseph Harris

Gospel  Mark 16:15-20
Jesus said to his disciples: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.

Sixth Sunday of Easter (B) – May 10

by Archbishop Joseph Harris
by Archbishop Joseph Harris

Gospel John 15:9-17

Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy might be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Empower youth by example

by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ and Director, CREDI
by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ and Director, CREDI

Today’s Gospel reminds me of the joy I saw on the faces of the many young persons – “branches” who attended last week Saturday’s Catholic Youth Expo 2015 at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya. We should all take note of Archbishop Joseph Harris’ and Winston Garcia’s message that before we go out on mission, we must first have an encounter with Jesus and be ‘formed’ so that we can be true disciples of Christ.
