by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ and Director, CREDI
by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ and Director, CREDI

“Saying thank you is more than good manners. It is good spirituality.” (Alfred Painter)

On behalf of CCSJ, I would like to thank all those who helped to make our 4th Respect for Life Week a memorable one. Our theme this year was: Regenerating the Moral and Spiritual Values of our Society. Presentations such as Archbishop Harris’ and Dr Terrence Farrell’s – delivered at our opening Conference – will be uploaded on CCSJ’s website. DVDs of the Conference and of most of the panel discussions that took place across the country can be obtained from CCSJ’s Office (Tel: 290 1635).

‘Respect Life: Promote Morals and Values’

Sir Ellis

I am delighted to speak at this 2013 edition of the Sir Ellis Clarke Memorial Conference.   Sir Ellis was a very special citizen of Trinidad and Tobago.  We all know the critical role he played in crafting this country’s Independence Constitution, his outstanding service as a lawyer and diplomat and then as Governor General and the first President of the Republic.  Until well into his winter years he was the ‘go-to’ constitutional law expert whenever difficult issues arose, and he never failed to provide insight and wisdom.  In fact those two words – insight and wisdom — summarise what he brought to his public life.

Theme: Regenerating the Moral and Spiritual Values of our Society

October 5th 2013

On behalf of members of CCSJ I extend a warm welcome to all of you. This is the 4th year that our Archdiocese is observing Respect for Life Week (RFLW). At the 3rd sitting of Synod, 2009, the faithful asked for such an observance.

Strategy 3a:1 of Resolution 3 under pastoral priority 3: Regenerating the Moral and Spiritual Values of our Society,  stated: “The Archdiocese to dedicate a week every year to the theme of ‘respect for life’.

Strategy 3a:3 states: “Each parish to conscientiously, honestly assess how it respects life, in terms of facilities for and services to persons from all walks of life and implement systems accordingly.”

Archbishop Harris’ Gospel Reflection Oct 6 – 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time (C)

by Archbishop Joseph Harris
by Archbishop Joseph Harris

Gospel Luke, 17:5-10

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’?
Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’? Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded? So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'”
