Standing in solidarity with Haitians

Leela Ramdeen

By Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ

The scale of the devastation in Haiti as a result of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake on 12 January calls for immediate and sustained action by all of us. I am in London at the moment and am involved in raising funds here for the relief effort.  This is a humanitarian crisis of enormous proportions. Now is the time for prayer and action. Please give generously.

Fr Joseph Harris, CSSp

Gospel

Jn 2:1-11
There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me?
My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Catholic family, become what you are

Leela Ramdeen

By Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ

Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them to become what they are capable of being”  (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

The Archdiocese’s pastoral priority this year is: The New Evangelization. The sub-theme is: Catholic family, become what you are. This theme reflects Pope John Paul II’s plea (in his encyclical, The Christian Family in the Modern World) for families to “become what you are, the domestic Church and the heart of the world.”

Fr Joe’s Sunday reflection January 10 – The Baptism of our Lord

Fr Joseph Harris, CSSp

Gospel

Lk 3:15-16, 21-22
The people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
