The second reading this Sunday (1 Cor 12:31 – 13:13) is most appropriate as we focus on Haiti. We need to “strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts” so that we can build a spirituality of justice in our communities, in our country and in the world.
The book, “A World on Its Knees: Praying for and With Our Brothers and Sisters in Haiti” was compiled by Sister Kathryn James Hermes, Franciscan Sister of Peace.
The book was produced by Pauline Books and Media, the publishing house of the Daughters of St. Paul.
The prayers are offered for use “in bulletins, prayer groups, parishes or in the silence of your own heart.”

The scale of the devastation in Haiti as a result of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake on 12 January calls for immediate and sustained action by all of us. I am in London at the moment and am involved in raising funds here for the relief effort. This is a humanitarian crisis of enormous proportions. Now is the time for prayer and action.
