Fr Joe’s Sunday reflection June 6 – Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (C)

by Fr Joseph Harris, CSSp

Gospel: Luke 7, 11 – 17

Jesus went to a town called Nain, accompanied by his disciples and a great number of people. When he was near the gate of the town it happened that a dead man was being carried out for burial, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable number of the townspeople were with her. When the Lord saw her he felt sorry for her. ‘Do not cry’ he said. Then he went up and put his hand on the bier and the bearers stood still, and he said, ‘Young man, I tell you to get up.’

Social teaching: The Catholic Church’s best kept secret?

Mike James
by Mike James

It has often been said that the Social Justice Teaching has been the best kept secret of the Roman Catholic Church. In the words of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) “Far too many Catholics are not familiar with the basic content of Catholic social teaching. More fundamentally, many Catholics do not adequately understand that the social teaching of the Church is an essential part of Catholic faith. This poses a serious challenge for all Catholics, since it weakens our capacity to be a Church that is true to the demands of the Gospel. We need to do more to share the social mission and message of our Church.”

by Fr Joseph Harris, CSSp

Gospel  Jn 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.

But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming.

The Trinitarian nature of God

Leela Ramdeen

By Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the most Holy Trinity. We are baptised “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Each time we pray the sign of the Cross; each time we say the “Creed” or the doxology: “Glory be to the Father…,” we profess our belief in the Trinitarian nature of God, our Creator.

Fr Joe’s Sunday reflection May 23 – Pentecost Sunday (C)

by Fr Joseph Harris, CSSp

First Reading: Acts 2: 1 – 11

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.
