Building pillars of peace

by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ

During this Advent season, let us open our hearts and minds to welcome the Prince of Peace more fully into our lives. Jesus came to “give light to those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:79).

Recently I attended the launch of the UNDP’s 20th Human Development Report (2010). Fr Joe’s Gospel Reflection Dec 5 – Second Sunday of Advent (A)

by Fr Joseph Harris, CSSp

Gospel: Matthew 3, 1 – 12.

Fr Joe’s Gospel Reflection Nov 28 – First Sunday of Advent (A)

by Fr Joseph Harris, CSSp

Gospel: Mt 24:37-44

Jesus said to his disciples: “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. In those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away. So will it be also at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be out in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left.

Addressing human trafficking

by Leela Ramdeen, Chair, CCSJ

“The trade in human persons constitutes a shocking offense against human dignity and a grave violation of fundamental human rights. Already the Second Vatican Council had pointed to ‘slavery, prostitution, the selling of women and children’…as ‘infamies’ which ‘poison human society, debase their perpetrators’ and constitute ‘a supreme dishonour to the Creator’ (Gaudium et Spes, 27).(Pope John Paul II, 2002)
