The Catholic Commission for Social Justice, in collaboration with the Parish of Sts. Philip and James Chaguanas, hosted a seminar entitled “Building a Just Society: Living our Faith in the Market place” on Sunday 15th July 2012, at the Max Murphy Centre in Chaguanas.

The seminar aimed “to motivate and encourage parishioners to live by the tenets of our Faith 24/7.” It began with opening prayer and welcome by Vicar (Central Vicariate) and Parish Priest Fr. Christopher Lumsden, and introductions by Gary Tagallie who facilitated the seminar. The seminar overview was givenby CCSJ Chair Ms. Leela Ramdeen, followed by the feature address which was effectively delivered by Msgr. Michael de Verteuil.
Catholic business leaders should see their work as a vocation and be guided by Gospel morals, values and principles for the benefit of their company, employees and the wider society.
This was a key point made during the three presentations at a July 7 workshop on Vocation of the Business Leader: A Reflection, a practical handbook for Catholic businessmen and women published by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. The council is led by Ghanaian Cardinal Peter Turkson.
CCSJ embarked on a Project to take photographs of the interior and exterior of all Catholic Churches and some Chapels in our Archdiocese. One of our goals is to remind Catholics that our Churches and Chapels are sacred spaces. We used the photographs as a backdrop against which members of staff at The Chancery were taped while they prayed the Divine Mercy Rosary.
