VACANCY: Migrant Ministry Coordinator

The Office of the Archbishop of Port of Spain and the Catholic Commission for Social Justice is seeking a conscientious young professional willing to learn and explore the social teachings of the Church and become the voice of those who can not defend themselves.

The Migrant Ministry Coordinator will develop a common vision for and deepen the Church’s ministry to migrants at the parish and archdiocese levels by collaborating with and guiding stakeholders to adopt the approach of Welcoming, Protecting, Promoting  and Integrating migrants into our communities.

This position is paid regular full time work. The successful candidate will be salaried and requires personal mobility.

This position will report to the Chairperson of the Archdiocesan Social Justice Commission

The main responsibilities are:

  • To provide assistance to Parishes in establishing Parish Ministries for Migrants and Refugees and to assist Parishes with needs assessments of Migrants and Refugees who reside in their particular Parish
  • To maintain ongoing liaison with the Living Water Community and be the referral point for Parishes in seeking assistance from them
  • To arrange training for Parishes and Parishioners in migrant refugee protection and other support
  • To develop standardized forms for information gathering and reports and maintain relevant data bases
  • To organize meetings at Archdiocesan level as well as Parish level and develop a Parish Model Framework for Parish Ministries for Migrants and Refugees.
  • To develop a Vicariate structure for closer coordination within Vicariates aimed at strengthening and advancing the Parish Ministry of Migrants and Refugees
  • Responsible for research and advocacy (digital) for Social Justice, and forming young Catholics for Social Justice advocacy

The successful candidate must possess the following job requirements;

  • An Undergraduate degree, preferably in Law
  • Be computer Literate – Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Be familiar with the structure of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain and the Mission of the Church in T&T
  • Demonstrated experience in an administrative/ managerial role requiring tact, judgement and discretion in handling internal and external contact.
  • Should have a background in justice and a grounding in the Social Justice principles of the Catholic Church
  • Must be a committed Catholic who wants to explore the Church’s social justice tradition and think with the Church
